The good folks at THQ flew us in to Las Vegas over the weekend to get a first look at UFC Undisputed 2010, which is set for release on May 25, 2010. The company brought us to Mandalay Bay, where the game was waiting for us at the Mix Lounge up on the 64th floor. (Yep, wayyyyy above the Las Vegas strip.) Unfortunately, it was not hands-on, so we weren’t able to test out all the gameplay changes made. However, we did get an idea of what was in store, enough to put together a preview (which should be on the site by the time you read this – go check it out!).
Spectacular view from atop the Mandalay Bay!
Friday night’s social gathering was a lot of fun, as we were able to hobnob with UFC president Dana White and a few fighters, including Mike Swick. We sat around with White and asked him a few questions (you’ll see part of that interview later this week on the site), and then had a chance to talk to the game’s producers as well. From there, well, it was a blur of beers along the Las Vegas strip, so let’s move on…
Dana White is the MAN. (And that's me on the left, by the way.)
Saturday night followed, and we headed over to the Mandalay Bay Events Center to check out UFC 109: Relentless. The evening was filled with many memorable bouts, a few surprises (Swick lost, even after he swore up and down he’d win), and more. We had pretty good seats on the floor, and even got a little side commentary from Jose Sanchez from Electric Playground. (Favorite comment of the night followed a controversial victory by a rather large fighter: “After party celebration at the Bayside Buffet!”) The main event came, with Mark Coleman and Randy Couture going at it for the first round and a half before Couture earned a much-deserved submission victory. It was a great time overall, even though it was a zoo getting out of the events center. (We blame Bruce Buffer, who was hanging around outside and getting pictures. Ahh, well, Buff’s the man.)
As real (and awesome) as it gets!
Thanks again to the UFC and THQ for providing us with an excellent weekend. We’ve included a few pictures below, and you can expect stellar coverage of their upcoming game over the next few weeks. It’s a shame we didn’t get to meet Lesnar tho. (He’s still in recovery, although we hear he’s training. Awesome.)
This is SUCH a rough job we have, folks. :D
